Tiptree History

Leaving the township of Tiptree, in Essex, England, John and Barbara Moore, with children Roger and Elaine, came to Australia in 1970. Tiptree Kennels began with the first Golden Retriever puppy litters in 1974 from Goudini Delphine and Wardley Zebulyn. In Balhannah, South Australia (1976 -1981), Tiptree Kennels established itself as leading breeders of show quality, gundog and obedience trained Golden Retrievers.

In 1981 the Moores and Tiptree Kennels moved to Strathalbyn Road, Mylor (Biggs Flat). The property

was previously owned by Basenji breeders and operated as boarding kennels. The kennel buildings were old and small but functional. John Moore built several new kennel buildings, dog runs and extensions to the main house. The garden was carefully landscaped by Barbara with walnut, fruit and native trees and many rose bushes.

As founding members of the Golden Retriever Club of South Australia committed to improving Golden Retriever breeding and health, the first eye clinic and several GRC of SA events were hosted on Tiptree Kennels grounds.

Boarding at Tiptree Kennels began to increase with customers from the local area and Tiptree puppy owner’s patronage. Barbara did extensive travel overseas for quality Golden Retriever bloodlines, visiting renowned breeders and researching boarding kennel designs. Tiptree Kennels began importing Drybed luxury dog bedding from the UK, which became an optional extra for dog’s boarding comfort.

The large boarding kennel facility was designed and built in the late 1990’s and with local council approval Tiptree Kennels expanded according to world’s best boarding kennel practice. Several dedicated staff also contributed to it’s growing success as safe and reliable boarding kennels.

John and Barbara Moore ran Tiptree Kennels at Biggs Flat from 1981 to 2008. When the property was sold in 2008 Tiptree prefix Golden Retrievers moved location and Tiptree Kennels boarding began a new chapter of transformation.

Barbara Moore’s commitment as a breeder, judge and her work as an advocate of the Golden Retriever breed is recognised by the GRC of SA with the annual ‘Barbara Moore Memorial Championship Show’.
